With "Swoon", we fall...over backwards

Half chaise longue, half armchair, "Swoon" has a seductive design.

Even if "Swoon" were devoid of function, I'd still be gobsmacked by its 50s-inspired sculptural form. Seat and backrest seem to merge in harmony with the armrests of this armchair, which brings a sense of fulfilment to an interior.

The design of "Swoon" was born from the imagination of "Space Copenhagen" designers Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou. In the course of implementing their interior architecture projects, the latter identified a gap that they filled with their own design for the Fredericia Furniture brand. The result? A chair that's as compact as it gets, offering comfort and back support, and that's a perfect match for most living rooms. Just as orthopaedic shoes have little aesthetic advantage, so too can armchairs: ergonomic armchairs often don't exactly shine for their beauty, but "Swoon", on the other hand, cleverly hides its extra support cushions behind voluptuous curves that fit perfectly into an ensemble.

Lounge chair and armchair in one

There is a difference between the two and I'll explain it. Club or lounge armchairs, also known as lounge chairs in English, are often accompanied by a footrest for reclining.
Compared to the usual armchairs, these are larger, with a generally deep back and a wider seat. They are upholstered and have armrests, but not always with an ottoman. They are pieces of furniture, certainly designed for sitting, but which stand on their own.

When fashion designers get involved

Largely handmade, the "Swoon armchairs" are customisable: numerous fabrics from "Kvadrat", one of Denmark's largest textile companies, and different types of wood. Designer Raf Simons recently designed a velvet upholstery series called "Harald". This armchair is equally at home in a living room or in a public space such as a bar or entrance hall.
