Coming to stay: dad shoes
by Vanessa Kim
There are fashion trends that I like to see on other people but that don't suit me. These include loafers, which are one of this summer's must-haves. But decide for yourself...
I can still remember well how a school friend apologised to me because her father opened the door for me wearing Adilettes. We laughed because we thought the blue bathing shoes were incredibly ugly. Almost 20 years later, we laughed again because the last time we met, she was wearing Adilettes herself. Although I like experimenting with fashion as a fashion editor, I deliberately skip this trend because I know it doesn't suit me. But I like seeing the trainers on other people all the more.
The sandals were originally developed in the 60s for athletes to protect themselves from athlete's foot. They look the part and take the edge off any outfit. But that's what fashion is all about: playing with style breaks. That's why I particularly like the bathing shoes (on others) with dresses or with long denims.
Adidas Adilettes are now available in a wide range of colours. Brands such as Fila and Vans have now followed suit and brought out a slip-on model themselves. The highlight: there are no limits to your outfit as they go with almost everything. If you want to "pimp" them, wear them with socks or fishnet socks. Start with the same colour first and then add a contrasting shade for a casual twist.

Are the sporty models too masculine for you? Then grab some fur slippers. They not only keep your feet warm, but also add an elegant touch. You can wear them either with black trousers or a slim skirt. Admittedly: They are fluffy, but whether you need (fake) fur in summer is questionable. [[productlist:7358800,7358769]]

When I’m not exploring the depths of the sea as an open water diver, I enjoy plunging into the world of fashion. On the streets of Paris, Milan and New York is where I keep my eyes peeled for the latest trends. And I’ll show you how to take them from the catwalk to your everyday life.
