Nerve-wracking "Counter-Strike 2" matches at the highest level were on show at the Digitec Playground Vol. 12 final. You can find an overview of all the results here.

"Counter-Strike" fans were treated to some brilliant matches at the Digitec Playground Final on Saturday. In two online qualifier rounds, a total of four teams qualified for the offline final in Zurich. Two teams faced each other in the Grümpi final and two teams in the Pro final. The teams were allocated to the Grümpi and Pro tournaments using the Faceit system. Participants with level 7 and lower were placed in the Grümpi tournament and participants with level 8 and higher in the Pro tournament. Both finals were played in "best of three" mode.

The final was broadcast on Twitch and Youtube. The whole thing was commented on by shooter expert aRTycH and our baller Simon Balissat. You can watch the entire broadcast in full length here. The Grümpi final starts at 15:48 and the pro final starts at 3:12:36.

A rollercoaster ride in the Grümpi final

In the Grümpi, the teams "anyoney home" and "Raclet everywhere" face each other.

"anyoney home" beat the competition in the qualifier with four wins and one defeat - the defeat came when they had already qualified. In the interview before the match, team boss Luca was visibly nervous: "We had a few technical problems with the set-up. It's just different to playing from home. But it's a cool experience."

The team didn't do much preparation - they didn't analyse their opponents in detail beforehand. Nevertheless, Luca predicts a commanding 2:0 victory for "anyoney home".

"Raclet everywhere" also qualified for the final with ease. They have prepared thoroughly for the final and have a coach with them to guide them through the match. They have taken a close look at the opposing team and are familiar with their style of play and their favourite maps.

The two teams go into the match without clear favourites. This is how the match ended:

  • Game 1 (Vertigo, Overtime): "anyoney home" 16
    • "Raclet everywhere" 14
  • Game 2 (Anubis): "anyoney home" 13
    • "Raclet everywhere" 7

While the first game was a close neck-and-neck race until the end (including overtime), "anyoney home" took a 10:0 lead in the second game. The brilliant comeback by "Raclet everywhere" was no longer enough to turn the game around.

"anyoney home" were satisfied with their performance. It was "all in all a pretty comfortable win". It's the first time the team has taken part in a tournament and won.

In collaboration with HP/HyperX there are great prizes for the Grümpi players. The winning team can first choose between a QuadCast S microphone from Hyper X and Pulsefire HasteX mouse, along with a mouse mat from Hyper X. The runners-up can then share the remaining prizes among themselves.

Pro final: David annoys Goliath

"FlyingH1rsch" will compete against "mYinsanity" in the pro final.

"FlyingH1rsch" enters the race as the underdog. Although the team has a lot of offline experience, it has never won a tournament in Switzerland. In an interview, player "stuerzi1" reveals the team's ambitions. They want to snatch at least one map from the favourites. A victory would also be possible. The players have also taken a top-secret strat book to the final, in which their secret strategies against "mYinsanity" are recorded. The main points of their strategy: shittalk and headshots.

The clear favourite in the pro final is "mYinsanity" - one of the most successful Swiss teams with a lot of offline experience and numerous victories in various tournaments. For the tournament, they have imported two players from Estonia as reinforcements and trained together in an offline boot camp. According to "mYinsanity" player Daven, the team is very confident going into this final.

This is how the match ended:

  • Game 1 (Mirage): "FlyingH1rsch" 4 - "mYinsanity" 13
  • Game 2 (Ancient): "FlyingH1rsch" 9 - "mYinsanity" 13

The first game was a clear-cut affair. "mYinsanity" controlled the game and won easily. In the second game on Ancient, David put up a good fight against the previously overpowering Goliath. The underdogs from "FlyingH1rsch" took the lead, gave it back at one point and then got it back again.

These were hard-fought rounds in which the flying stag "HeyPynello" in particular shone with numerous spectacular kills. He summarises in the interview: "Too bad, the Aim wasn't quite right, so we were penalised". Next, the team wants to concentrate on other tournaments in Switzerland. "mYinsanity" player reezk reveals that his team wants to focus primarily on shaking up the scene in Germany. They have already achieved everything in Switzerland.

The winners of "mYinsanity" can look forward to these prizes per player:

My love of video games was unleashed at the tender age of five by the original Gameboy. Over the years, it's grown in leaps and bounds.
