The Stick&Tree is a sustainable alternative to bulky traditional Christmas trees – and so much more.

This is my third year with the reusable decorative tree by the Swiss brand Stick&Tree. It’s made of European beech hardwood and is more than a Christmas tree – it’s a design piece you can use on many occasions if you’re willing to get a bit creative. That’s the result of my long-term test. Here are three good reasons – in addition to having a clear conscience – why I can no longer imagine having a real Christmas tree.

1. Fast and easy assembly

This DIY tree is super simple to put up and take down. All you need to do is screw the tree trunk into the round foot, and then stick in all the branches from bottom to top. The holes fit the sizes of the branches, making it easy to pair them up.

The Stick&Tree comes in a compact package.

The parts of the trunk are marked with letters and numbers to indicate how to stick them together. I’m done in less than five minutes and can start decorating. By the way, the same applies to taking the tree down – it takes just a few minutes.

It’s best to work your way up from the bottom.

2. New decoration for every occasion

I was sceptical at first, but now I look forward to putting the tree up and decorating it. With the right decorations and fairy lights, this DIY tree looks nice and sparkly and spreads a festive mood, even without green needles.

If you’re still missing the greenery, you can add artificial or real garlands. Over the years, I’ve found ways to make the wooden tree greener with natural decoration – by draping it with a garland of eucalyptus leaves or attaching eucalyptus branches to the wooden parts. Both looked pretty and smelled lovely.

I’m falling in love with the DIY tree by Stick&Tree more and more every year, as it gives me the freedom to design it as I wish. This year, instead of green leaves, I added garlands and tree decorations to make it look more lush and festive.

3. Low maintenance and no needle mess

The Stick&Tree has no needles and therefore smells of nothing. I didn’t like that at first. However, I now use a Christmas tree aroma blend and a fragrance lamp to create the right scent and I’m happy that I don’t have to keep picking up needles from the floor.

Conclusion: the DIY tree is what you make of it

There are many artificial Christmas trees, but for me, a tree made from a natural material such as wood comes closest to a real one. The beech hardwood features a beautiful grain, which adds to the Stick&Tree’s warm look. With or without Christmas baubles, it’s a modern, minimalist replacement for a traditional Christmas tree. And it looks deceptively real if you decorate it with plenty of greenery. At the end of the day, the Stick&Tree is what you make of it with the right decorations – be it at Christmas or Easter. And the best thing is how fast and easy this tree is put up and take down again.

The Stick&Tree is a decorative object you can interpret as you wish.
