Spinera SUP-Kayak review – top or flop?

There are some pieces of sports equipment I really want to love. An inflatable board that you can use both as an SUP and as a kayak? Sign me up! But does the Spinera Hybrid SUP-Kayak deliver what it promises?

Gliding over the water standing on a stand-up paddle board (SUP) is great fun. And doing so sitting in a kayak is just as great. The Hybrid SUP-Kayak from Spinera claims to be both an SUP and a kayak in one. It’s not meant for ambitious athletes, but rather for people looking for peace and relaxation on the lake. The concept spoke to me in part because it sounded very family-friendly. Depending on your fitness level and ability, you can paddle sitting or standing, or sit down to take a break. All good arguments for the board. So is it the perfect companion for fun in the water?

The short answer is, unfortunately, no. Mind you, I do really like the idea of having a lowered cutout for more stability when standing and more power when sitting. But overall, the board is a disappointment; the cons outweigh the pros. Check out the video in the header to find out more.
Pros:
**- Versatile: can be used as an SUP or kayak
**- Stable: doesn’t flip easily
**- Easy to switch from SUP to kayak
Cons:
**- Paddle and pump not included with the board
**- Board leaks air
**- Fin boxes are crooked
**- With both fins in, paddling straight ahead is almost impossible
**- Slide-in fins get jammed
**- Manufacturer’s warranty is limited to one year
**- Adhesive residue is visible at the seams
The lowdown
Due to the poor workmanship, I can’t recommend the Spinera SUP-Kayak – despite really liking the concept.

Research diver, outdoor guide and SUP instructor – I love being in, on and around water. Lakes, rivers and the ocean are my playgrounds. For a change of perspective, I look at the world from above while trail running or flying drones.
