Running clothing: Functionality with style

Similar to shoes, running clothing should also focus on functionality, quality and comfort - although I won't deny that the look and style of the running outfit is not irrelevant and can provide additional motivation and fun when running. We once again asked Daniel Harder, running expert at New Balance, about the topic of running clothing.
"Running clothing should ideally be made from synthetic and functional fabrics, such as polyester or polyamide," says Daniel Harder. "Moisture is not absorbed by this breathable material, but is transported to the outside, which also means that the shirt or trousers are not weighed down." In addition, a light film of sweat forms on the skin when sweating, which has a cooling effect.
Whether long or short depends on subjective perception and the intensity of the training, according to Harder. Tank tops, short or long-sleeved shirts and running jackets are available as tops. An extra holder for headphones is always very practical so that they don't constantly dangle and get in the way while running. Both shorts and leggings are suitable for "underneath". Many runners prefer shorts as they allow their legs to feel a little freer.
Your equipment should also include a headband and a waterproof and windproof jacket - so that there are no more excuses in bad weather conditions!

Not to forget functional underwear. For women, it is particularly important to wear a sports bra with an appropriate support function. There are basically three levels of support: low, medium and high. The greater the physical exertion and cup size of the woman, the greater the natural movement of the breast during sport and the more support and stability the sports bra needs to provide.
Sports bras absorb this natural breast movement and are therefore indispensable when exercising.
Often underestimated but just as important as tops and bottoms are the right running socks. These form the direct connection between the foot and the shoe and should therefore also be functional and not rub.

Compression technology is also a new trend in the field of functional running clothing. "Compression clothing, such as that from SKINS, is designed to increase the oxygen supply to the active muscles and improve blood circulation during sport," explains Daniel Harder. For example, the extremely tight-fitting tights are designed to support the calves when running and give the tired muscles an extra oxygen boost during training. The increased blood circulation also helps to prevent the build-up of lactic acid and other metabolic waste products during an intensive workout. This means that the athlete uses less oxygen at the same level of exertion and should therefore tire less quickly.
