Oneplus 12 presented: First just look, later touch

Oneplus has unveiled its latest smartphone in China. The Oneplus 12 will also be available internationally from the beginning of 2024. In Europe, it will not be available everywhere through official channels. The manufacturer has withdrawn from Germany and Switzerland, among other countries.

Very bright display and plenty of RAM

The Oneplus 12 boasts up to 24 gigabytes of RAM, one terabyte of storage space and a maximum brightness of 4500 nits. Even the iPhone 15 Pro with its 2000 nits pales in comparison. While the 6.85-inch AMOLED 120-Hertz display with 3168 × 1440 pixels is always identical, the new Android smartphone starts with 12 gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of storage space in the basic version.

In the camera sector, Oneplus is continuing its cooperation with Hasselblad. In the past, this has led to different shooting modes and colour renderings, among other things.

The Oneplus 12 is also protected against water jets to IP65. However, it is not waterproof and therefore not suitable for submersion.

Bad prospects for Germany and Switzerland

In 2023, the parent company of Oneplus, BBK, withdrew from Germany and Switzerland. As a result, the sister brands Oppo, Vivo and Realme also lost their official distribution channels. This was preceded by a patent lawsuit by Nokia in Germany. In Switzerland Oppo explicitly cited economic reasons for its withdrawal. Until BBK changes its mind, the Oneplus 12 will only be available as an import from other countries. Oneplus is already advertising the new smartphone on its homepages in the rest of Europe.
