Nutella will soon be available in a vegan version
If you are vegan, you don't spread Nutella on your bread. This is because the chocolatey spread from Ferrero contains milk powder. But the Italian company has a vegan plan.
After 60 years on the market, Ferrero is apparently daring to innovate with Nutella. The confectionery company's cash cow is to be launched on the market in autumn in a version without milk powder, making it edible for vegans too. That is, if the sugary hazelnut cream is considered a treat at all.
The first market in which vegan Nutella will be on sale is Italy. According to a LinkedIn post by a high-ranking representative of the Italian sales cooperative VéGé Group, the time has come in autumn.
The brand name - Nutella Plant based - is not particularly imaginative, but has already been legally protected for a number of countries. It is not yet known what Ferrero uses to replace the milk powder. As a rule, vegan alternatives to animal products often use oats, coconut or soya.
The new vegan Nutella was first presented to a selected group of retailers at a trade fair in Sardinia at the beginning of May. They were told that the plant-based version of the hazelnut cream was merely an add-on to the product range. The "normal" Nutella with milk powder will continue to be available.
