Now available: the Galaxus umbrella
Just in time for the start of autumn, we are now also selling umbrellas from our own brand. They are robust and come in a cheerful black.
Autumn is here. It's stormy, and the rain is coming down sideways. Now you can see them again, the little tragedies on the side of the road: bent umbrellas that soaking wet people are frustratedly throwing into the trash can.
Modern pocket umbrellas are designed for lightness. But featherweight and stability rarely go hand in hand. The new Galaxus umbrella therefore deliberately relies on strong struts, a sturdy handle, and a 103-centimeter diameter. It is made from 100 percent recycled polyester. Fitting for the dark time of year, you can get it in black. And only in black.
«We designed it a bit larger on purpose so that you don't have to choose between: Do I stay dry or does my bag?», explains my colleague Lara from the private label team. «We didn't want our first own umbrella to be a model that gives up at the slightest gust of wind and makes people think we sell poor quality.»
Not a lightweight, but stable
As a native of Hamburg and therefore a bad-weather expert by definition, I was able to examine the umbrella at the Zurich headquarters.
First impression: This thing can take a beating. The Galaxus model feels pleasantly substantial in the hand, and the automatic opening mechanism is tight and robust. It certainly takes up more space in your bag with its 392 grams and 30.5 centimeters than our bestseller, the Ultra Light from Knirps. But in return, you will most likely get significantly less wet.

It's a pity that we only sell the umbrella in Switzerland so far – and not yet in Germany. In any case, my colleague has promised to send a model to Hamburg. So that I can test it extensively for you.
