New to our range
"Pokémon Legends: Z-A" will be released for Switch 1, Switch 2 and in a bundle. Nintendo is relocating the adventure to a single city, opening a new phase in the series.
«Pokémon» returns - and this time it's different. «Pokémon Legends: Z-A» is not a classic role-playing game, but an attempt to rethink the principle of the series. Instead of travelling the world, the game focuses on a single city: Lumiose City in the Kalos region. In doing so, Nintendo is moving away from the usual pattern of travelling through landscapes and arenas.
«Pokémon Legends: Z-A» will be released on 16 October 2025 for both the previous Switch and the new Switch 2. In terms of content, both versions are identical, but technically different. On the classic Switch, the game runs in an adapted resolution and reduced frame rate. The Switch 2 edition utilises the more powerful hardware and therefore offers sharper textures, more stable frame rates and faster loading times.
According to Nintendo, game saves can be transferred between the two systems. This makes the switch seamless. If you start with the old console, you can continue on the Switch 2 later without any problems.
Lumiose City is both the setting and the playing field. The open world remains, but it is becoming denser. You explore urban neighbourhoods, back alleys and squares freely and without fixed routes or villages. The game focuses more on vertical structures, close combat elements and real-time actions.
Battles are no longer turn-based. You control your Pokémon directly, dodge attacks and make timing decisions, just like in action games. Old mechanics don't disappear completely, however: Mega Evolution returns and adds tactical depth to the new system.
In parallel to the game, Nintendo is launching a bundle on the market. It contains the new Switch 2 including a digital download code for «Pokémon Legends: Z-A».
Colleague Domi was at the preview event in the Eiffel Tower in September and has already tried out «Pokémon Legends: Z-A» already tried it out. In his report, he emphasises the more dynamic battle system, which plays more smoothly and directly than in previous parts. At the same time, he notes that the technology is not yet convincing everywhere and the graphical leap remains limited.
