New LEGO releases: from technology to architecture

Each month, LEGO launches new sets. From landmarks to robots and Pixar Cars sets for the film release, LEGO has cast almost everything you can think of into tiny, colourful bricks. To help you see what’s on offer, I’ve selected the highlights from each series.
When robotics meets building bricks
If you love LEGO, robotics and programming, BOOST is the perfect LEGO set. With its 840 bricks, you can build five different robots. LEGO went all out with this set to make sure it was innovative. BOOST lets fans do things that weren’t possible before, such as using an app to programme the robot. This set is recommended for ages 7 to 12, although we think it can bring a lot of joy to adults, too.

We were lucky enough to be able to play with BOOST prior to the launch and were really blown away. You can read our full test report here (in German):
A homage to the city of love
The LEGO Architecture series also came up trumps this month with the definition of beauty in LEGO-sized pieces. The Arc de Triomphe, an impressive piece of Parisian architecture steeped in history, has become the latest landmark to undergo the LEGO treatment. This detailed building block set is perfect for travel buffs, history enthusiasts and architecture aficionados from 12 years and above. With its 386 parts, the set boasts striking bas-relief and statue-adorned pillars. It manages to highlight the bold lines, curves and contours of this architectural feat. The set also includes a golden plate to represent the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and a LEGO interpretation of the eternal flame.
A winter wonderland on rails
Although it might be a bit premature for anything Christmassy, there’s no denying this set is ideal for fans of the most magical time of the year. The lovingly depicted details fit seamlessly into the LEGO Creator collection and create a world for the whole family to explore. The set includes over 734 pieces and five LEGO figures for you to create your own winter wonderland and train. Green wreaths, decorative lights, wrapped presents and white tree parts add a festive feel. You can also incorporate special elements such as train wheels, dark brown windows, buffers, cowcatchers and roller skates. The set comes with a track so the train can chug round and round. It’s suitable for children from 12 years and big kids alike.
Bringing Minecraft to life
Immerse yourself in interactive Minecraft adventure with your favourite characters and features in this easy to remodel LEGO Minecraft set. The Ocean Monument was made with young fans of the hit video game in mind. It includes the mini figures Steve and Alex as well as a squid, a guardian and an elder guardian. The 1,122-piece set is suitable for children from 8 years.

Adrenaline-fuelled races for the kids’ room
Lightning McQueen will be whizzing back onto Swiss cinema screens again in September. To coincide with the film launch, LEGO is releasing new sets with lots of extra parts. The new addition to the Juniors series features stars from the third film – Lightning McQueen, Cruz Ramirez, Jackson Storm, Guido and Mack. It goes without saying that the crew chief’s stand has space for Guido. Juniors Florida 500 Final Race comes complete with race monitor and raising flag bars plus a Start/Finish line arch and trackside barriers. The easy-to-build 266-piece set is suitable for ages 5 to 8.

For mini racer wannabes
LEGO DUPLO didn’t want the youngest thrill seekers to be left out at the launch of Cars 3. That’s why they made sure fans aged 2 to 5 could build their friends Lightning McQueen, Cruz Ramirez and Mack out of big Duplo bricks. This 28-piece set is quick and easy to build. Little hands will love the Flo V8 café with its facade and petrol pump.
