Like in a fairy tale
My search for string lights turned out to be much more fruitful than I'd imagined.
When I have a clear idea of what I want to buy, I become obsessed, even if it means giving up on an item for years instead of settling for one that might just do the trick. As a lover of lamps, I could have bought a string light a long time ago for the warm atmosphere it creates. But so far, no model on the market - whether intended for Christmas celebrations or for creating a pretty atmosphere - has convinced me with its design.
Light garlands, casting a magical light from the ceiling or trees, are beautifully suited to children's rooms or occasions such as weddings. After a bit of research, I discovered that a garland of this kind is called "fairy lights" in English, that it was invented by the British physicist and chemist Joseph Wilson Swan, who is also credited with inventing the incandescent light bulb.
In 1882, the London "Savoy" theatre asked Swan to electrify the entire building. For the Opera "Iolanthe", he was to illuminate the fairies as well as the enchanted forest. In collaboration with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, he integrated the lighting into the stage and costumes. Miniature strings of lights, powered by small battery packs, were cleverly concealed in the fairies' costumes. The opening night is a great success and goes down in history.

Since then, I've found out a bit more about these garlands and I've also managed to find something I like. It's the "Hygge" model from Smart Garden - whose bulbs are placed on sockets of pastel colours. The bulbs are placed on pastel-coloured sockets that add a touch of lightness, making it a real eye-catcher both day and night.
