Headphones or jewellery? These earbuds are both
First they emancipated themselves from all kinds of cables, now headphones no longer even want to be recognised as such. Their next evolutionary stage: a decorative accessory for the ear.
We are quick to write off overperformers on two legs as ambitious and somehow annoying. Jewellery, on the other hand, should now fulfil more expectations than just looking pretty. So we let rings track our heart health and breathing rate and reprimand us when we've come to bed far too late, as we often do. Meanwhile, watches receive calls, emails and push messages, act as a means of payment and know (better than we do) where we are in our cycle. Smart.
Our earrings have so far proved to be less multi-talented. They hung there or were stuck in, looked good, done. High time to finally give these lazy pieces another function. They don't have to serve as a second or third main command centre, no, no. Let's start small. Cosy, sensory. These ear cuffs are headphones. Or the other way round?
Motorola «Moto Buds Loop»
The glittering Swarovski crystals prove just how seriously the «Moto Buds Loop» take their second alter ego as a piece of jewellery. They also score points with an integrated microphone, noise cancellation and a battery life of eight hours.

Bose «Ultra Open Earbuds»
The minimalist clip-on headphones have a flexible headband, are equipped with Bose Immersive Audio and run for up to seven hours. Thanks to the microphone, they are not only suitable for listening to music, but also for making phone calls. My colleague Siri Schubert has already tested them.

JVC «HA-NP1T-TU»
The name «HA-NP1T-TU» doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but fortunately this doesn't detract from the audio quality. The JVC headphones are equipped with a 24-hour rechargeable battery and, like its two competitor products, they can also be used as a headset. Their active noise cancellation minimises disturbing ambient noise.
