Tinned beans are a surprising sales hit in the Galaxus range. The two ready meals based on Bud Spencer's original recipe obviously taste good - and trigger nostalgic feelings.
Normally, «tactical foodpacks» dominate the sales charts in the «ready-to-eat food category». For a few weeks now, however, something has been established here that not only outdoor fans buy. These are two tinned bean dishes. What makes them special: They are made according to Bud Spencer's original recipe.

Manuel Odermatt, who is responsible for food in the Galaxus supermarket team, was quite surprised that the tinned beans were so popular. After six months, it is clear that the Bud Spencer beans are not just hype, but have established themselves in the shop. «Perhaps many shoppers are reminiscing about Bud Spencer's films and have always wanted to try the beans», Manuel surmised.
It is thanks to the son of Bud Spencer, who died in 2016, that this is now possible. In the films made from 1970 onwards, Bud Spencer and his film partner Terence Hill had to spoon up beans again and again. But they didn't like what they were served. And so Bud Spencer, who was also an amateur chef, took to the cooker himself and prepared the film food. At least that's what his son Giuseppe Pedersoli keeps telling us.
The company «Bud Power» is responsible for production and marketing. It is based in northern Italy and already has an annual turnover in the double-digit million range just two years after it was founded, as the Austrian newspaper «Der Standard» recently wrote.
More food products with the Bud Spencer logo already exist or are in the pipeline. Protein bars can also be found here in the shop. Next up is a Bud Spencer beer on the market.
The recipe for Bud Spencer beans is very simple: Borlotti beans from Piedmont, stewed with tomato, bacon, onion and spices. And, of course, lots of nostalgia. Comparable tinned bean dishes would certainly be available for less money. It would be even cheaper if you prepared it yourself. But that's not the original recipe. Even TV chefs have always had to interpret freely.
If you can't remember what it was like with the beans and Bud Spencer - you can refresh your memory here. In «Four Fists for a Hallelujah» from 1971, Bud Spencer calmly eats a pan of beans while keeping four not-so-sympathetic contemporaries at bay.

In «The Devil's Right and Left Hand» (1970), Terence Hill as «tired Joe» shows what happens when someone is really hungry.

In 1973, the beans even made it into a film title, in the gangster parody «Even the angels eat beans».
Are we already making millions with the beans at Galaxus? Not yet, but maybe we will. Maybe you just need a shopping basket filler anyway or have just got hungry? You know what's important when it comes to nutrition:
