Bosch Zamo III: better than a folding ruler?

I've always been a nostalgic girl. From cutting wood to measuring people, my folding tape measure has always been there for me. But as soon as I had the Bosch Zamo laser rangefinder in my hands, the folding tape measure went into oblivion.
The box is small and practical. Inside you'll find the Zamo, three additional accessories, a user manual and even batteries. Bosch knows how to score points right off the bat. Especially as, even without having read the user manual, it's easy to understand what goes where and what it's used for. Now that's a pleasure!

Used without accessories, the rangefinder can be used to measure distances. So far, nothing new. For example, you can stand at one end of a room and point the laser rangefinder at the opposite side. A small red dot shows you in which direction you are aiming. The screen then displays a measurement, which you can save by pressing the one and only button in the middle of the rangefinder. However, you can only save one measurement. If you wish to measure something else and save the result, the previously saved value will be overwritten. To measure an area, however, you can press the button twice quickly to multiply the last two measurements.
The three new adapters
But the little box contains some new features with three accessories that clip onto the rangefinder. The Laser Line Adapter features two bubble levels to ensure the laser beam is correctly aligned. This function is ideal for hanging straight pictures on walls. I had a few problems aligning the laser line correctly, because you can't put the Zamo directly on a table. Unless of course you want to hang your frames at waist height.

The second adapter is a hybrid oscillating between digital and analogue tools. It does have a tape measure, but it's actually the rangefinder that takes the measurements. It can be used mainly to measure short distances and rounded angles. I was easily able to measure the circumference of a lampshade and my own head.

The last adapter reminds me a little of the measuring wheels used on building sites, the principle is actually the same. You simply travel the distance to be measured with the little wheel and then read the value displayed on the screen, it's really quite simple. This adapter is also ideal for measuring curved distances, as it steers freely by hand.

First impression
My first impression is good. The device feels good in the hand and seems to be of good quality. The display is bright and easy to understand. The adapters work very well. As long as my eyes don't encounter the laser beam too often, there's nothing to stop us pursuing a bit of life together. But just in case, I'm going to keep my folding tape measure.

My life in a nutshell? On a quest to broaden my horizon. I love discovering and learning new skills and I see a chance to experience something new in everything – be it travelling, reading, cooking, movies or DIY.
