On the weekend of 12 to 14 October, the first Freestyle ROOTS took place in the beautiful Bernese Oberland. The organisers wanted to take the event back to the roots of freestyle and found their way there without any problems. A short experience report.

At the beginning of the month, our editorial team was made aware of a new event in Thun. As neither of our sports editors had time and I was there anyway, I offered to write a short report on my experiences. Here we are now. Hi! 👋

The Freestyle ROOTS follows on from the former freestyle.ch, which was no longer organised in 2017. Freestyle is now set to be revived in the Bernese Oberland, on a manageable scale and true to the motto "Watch, Move & Learn".

Back to the roots, then.

Every visitor, young and old, had something to discover this weekend. While the parents met up with old friends from the scene at the bar or the food stands, the kids had a great time all over the site. Be it at workshops on the individual sports with the pros or simply on the pump track and other attractions.

During the day, the best of freestyle was on offer between the FC Thun football stadium and the shopping centre. In addition to freeski, snowboard, skate and bike, there were also representatives of breakdance, graffiti and music. I'm happy to let the pictures speak for themselves:

On Saturday evening, the individual crews battled it out in the "Battle of Freestyle" - my personal highlight of the weekend. But I don't want to give too much away and simply recommend watching the video until the end.

The freestyle was definitely not neglected! The show was brilliant and the audience thanked them with smiling faces and lots of applause. After the successful debut, the organisers now want to review the event. They will then decide in due course whether the event will take place again next year.

Some exhibitors also showed their products on the site. I paid a brief visit to the colleagues from Sideshore, who drew our attention to the event. They presented the latest snowboards from Rome and Salomon, which you can find in our range. In addition to snow gear, we also have everything you need for freestyle. Also bikes and skateboards.

Since I was so blown away by all the impressions, I have the following offer for you:
If the event takes place again next year, I would be happy to invite someone. Interested?. [[competition:109]]

See you next year! 🤙

The digital world already had me firmly in its grip back in the day when I was training to be a computer engineer. So it goes without saying that I was also soon exposed to the web and social media – two things that are now very much part of my daily life. My face tan is one thing that has nothing to do with PC or smartphone screens. It’s a tell-tale sign of my love for the mountains and paragliding: #offline.
