9 newspaper racks that make your waste paper look glamorous

In Switzerland, we separate paper and cardboard for recycling. Both are valuable raw materials, which I therefore treat in the same way and store in beautiful racks as long as they’re in my home.

In Zurich District 5, the waste paper collection company comes by my home twice a month. Cardboard is only collected once a month. Sure, it’s annoying at times that I cannot dispose of my waste paper as I please, but I’ve found a great solution to this problem: elegant newspaper racks. If you’re a regular reader of my articles, you know that I don't tolerate bog-standard solutions when it comes to interior design. You won’t see me running to a Swedish-founded store that sells ready-to-assemble furniture. I'm always looking for designs that stand out from the crowd, no matter how long it takes to find them.

Most storage solutions for newspaper remind me of prison cell bars. A metal frame doesn’t look good in any home and is more suitable for sterile offices. As it turns out, others share this opinion and (finally) have come up with alternative designs made of rattan, for instance. Natural materials create a cosy look and make newspaper racks blend into any room. Haven’t come across a design you like? You’re in for a treat: here are a few of my favourite newspaper racks from the Galaxus range, which boast form and function.

Nice and round

Whether in natural wood or in black, the models «Stroy Landscape» and «Read Floor» by House Doctor glam up your waste paper. Their curved and airy design allows easy handling and contributes to the decorative character of these newspaper racks. Place them on the sideboard or floor and combine them with other rattan and natural fibre accessories.

Metallic designs

The models «Curve» by Aytm, «Square» by Ferm Living and «Ei» by Konstantin Slawinski might be made of metal, but their colour and shape make them stand out. Available in pastel shades or elegant gold, their clever design hides the fact that these are newspaper stands and emphasises their decorative side. With this in mind, don’t hide these models, but turn them into eye-catchers.

Braided baskets

Large and robust baskets are a great way to store waste paper. Models such as «Shape Mix», «Carry» and «Nest» by House Doctor are made of seaweed or willow and offer plenty of space. Just like conventional newspaper stands, this solution makes it easy to take the paper out and tie it into bundles. On top of this, baskets double as cardboard storage. Combine two matching models made of natural fibres and you’ll collect waste paper in style.
