Question about North Face Base Camp Voyager Duffel

Does anyone have experience with the Voyager Duffel 42l as hand luggage? Theoretically, it is too big in terms of dimensions, but as it is not a hard shell, it can be "compressed". Can airlines become "complicated" because the duffel is theoretically too large, but can be "squeezed" with little "packing material"? (Should then fit easily into the control compartment, right?)

It also fits under the seat with Easyjet. The bag is a bit too long, but easy to compress (depending on the filling of course)
