Product details
The sundial is the oldest known timekeeping instrument of humanity and still functions as reliably today as it did in ancient times. This artistic yet functional collector's piece combines masterful craftsmanship with historical charm, adding a working sundial to your coin collection. The hand of the coin – a gilded brass gnomon – reveals its function in sunlight and when perfectly aligned to the north: it casts a fine, slanted shadow on the artistically engraved, gilded coin surface made of 99.99% pure silver, thus impressively indicating the local solar time. This extraordinary silver coin is minted in Proof quality and comes with a coin case including a certificate of authenticity. The Proof (PP) quality is particularly sought after by collectors and is among the most elaborate manufacturing processes for a coin. Specially encapsulated: each coin has been carefully placed in a higher capsule that accounts for the additional height of the gnomon. With only 5,500 pieces available worldwide, this edition is strictly limited – a true collector's item for connoisseurs and enthusiasts. The design side of the coin showcases its central, functional element: a gilded brass gnomon rises in the center, standing as a small hand above the surface. The surface is artistically engraved, also gilded, and features Roman hour markings along the edge, a decorative acanthus leaf motif, and a stylized sun face at the bottom, from which the gnomon rises. The value side displays the portrait of King Charles III, created by Canadian artist Steven Rosati. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions "CHARLES III," "CANADA 2025," "D · G · REX," and "20 DOLLARS.".
