Product details
The Australian gold rush of the 1850s brought vast amounts of precious metal to the surface. To convert this enormous wealth into coins, the Perth Mint was established in 1899 as a branch of the British Royal Mint to mint Sovereigns from Western Australian gold. The first minted coin that is permanently displayed in the gold exhibition of the Perth Mint was one of 106 million Sovereigns produced until 1931. The classic design of the Sovereign features Saint George and a dragon. According to tradition, Saint George was a Roman guardian born in Greece and a Christian martyr. In the Middle Ages, myths surrounded him, including a long-lasting legend in which he saves a princess from a wicked dragon. The annual Sovereign gold coin from the Perth Mint is a prestigious 22-carat gold coin. The gold coin weighs 7.98 grams and is minted in "Proof" quality. The Proof quality is particularly sought after by collectors and is one of the most elaborate manufacturing processes for a coin. The Gold Sovereign PP - Perth Mint 2025 is limited to a worldwide mintage of only 1,250 pieces and comes in its original coin case, including a numbered certificate of authenticity. The obverse features a naked warrior on a horse wielding a sword over a dragon, surrounded by a decorative circle of raised dots. In addition to the mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint, the obverse also displays the inscriptions "AUSTRALIA" and the minting year "2025." The reverse of the coin shows the portrait of King Charles III. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions "CHARLES III" and the country of origin "AUSTRALIA." Below the portrait, the denomination "25 DOLLARS" is also depicted.
