Product details
The koala is one of the recognized symbols of Australia and has been protected since 1937 due to its endangerment caused by humans. The sleepy and gentle koalas spend most of their time resting or eating eucalyptus leaves in the forests of Australia. Since 2007, the Australian Perth Mint has been issuing the Australian Koala as a silver coin series in honor of this well-known marsupial. Since 2008, it has also been available in gold. With the Gold Koala 1/2 oz PP, the Perth Mint now presents a 1/2 oz Gold Koala in the popular proof quality for the first time. The proof quality is particularly sought after by collectors and is one of the most elaborate manufacturing processes for a coin. With a worldwide mintage of only 250 pieces, the gold coin is strictly limited and comes in its original coin case with a numbered certificate of authenticity. The design side of the coin captures the essence of these gentle creatures. In 2025, the design depicts a day in the life of the koala—high up in the tranquil refuge of the eucalyptus tree canopy. The motif is surrounded by the inscription "Koala" as well as the year of minting and the gold content of the coin: "2025 1/2oz 9999 Gold". Additionally, the mint mark "P" of the Perth Mint is visible. The reverse side of the coin features the portrait of King Charles III. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions "Charles III" and the country of origin "Australia". Below the portrait, the denomination "50 Dollars" is also depicted.
