The watch industry and Switzerland have been intertwined since the 16th century. With the Huguenot refugees fleeing their French persecutors, a wealth of knowledge arrived in Switzerland that continues to shape the local watch industry to this day. The reformer Jean Calvin issued a ban on wearing and producing jewelry around 1550, which led jewelers and goldsmiths in Geneva to turn away from jewelry and leverage their newly acquired expertise. The modern Swiss watch industry is now world-renowned and, in 2022, recorded another record year in demand for Swiss originals. This nearly 400-year success story is why Swissmint has produced this commemorative coin in honor of the watch industry and is now releasing it. This coin is strictly limited to an edition of only 4,750 pieces.

The design of the coin: The obverse features the heart of the watch, the movement, connected to the globe, symbolizing the global recognition of the watch industry. On the reverse side of this strictly limited coin, a gear is displayed along with the inscription "Confederation Helvetica," the minting year "2022," and the nominal value of "25 FR" – the first nominal value of this amount on a gold coin from Swissmint.
