Product details
This special curved silver coin from the Royal Australian Mint is dedicated to the Year of the Snake (2025) in the Chinese lunar calendar. It reflects the traditional story in which the Jade Emperor had the twelve zodiac animals race across a river to determine the order in which they would be placed in the calendar. With the motif of the snake, the sixth edition of the successful Lunar RAM series is now available. In Chinese elemental theory, each sign corresponds to an element that depends on the year. Specifically, 2025 is the Year of the Wood Snake, and people born in this year are considered creative and artistic. They are often described as talented, flexible, and wise. This exclusive silver coin is minted in proof quality and comes with an elegant coin case and a numbered certificate of authenticity. The proof (PP) finish is particularly sought after by collectors and is one of the most elaborate manufacturing processes for a coin. While in high relief minting only the relief of the design side stands out, in this curved minting process, the entire coin background is shaped into a curved form. This minting technique also presents special challenges for the mints. However, the effort is worthwhile, as both the convex and concave curvature of the coin create a unique appearance. The worldwide mintage of this special silver coin is limited to just 7,500 pieces.
