It shimmers darkly and has a magical quality: shungite. This stone is ancient, originating from two billion-year-old algae that lived in the pristine primordial oceans and stored the energy of sunlight. On Earth, shungite can only be found in one specific area: the village of Shunga in Karelia, Russia. Like diamonds, shungite is composed of carbon, the fundamental building block of all life.
