Product details

Contender is an archival silhouette that was released in 1995, featuring design ideas from Mizuno's founder, Rhiachi Mizuno. It was a lightweight style characterized by stability and support, designed for budget-conscious runners seeking a well-cushioned shoe suitable for both on-road and off-road runs.

For the upper, the original Contender combined mesh with suede reinforcements for a durable construction that maximizes comfort. The midsole is made of compression-molded single-density EVA foam with Mizuno's Transpower technology in the heel, a highly reactive foam insert that also provides additional shock absorption and cushioning.

The outsole features a new, firm, one-piece rubber with flex grooves in the forefoot area for a smoother transition from heel to toe. The classic 90s look and the balanced way in which matte mesh and suede alternate create a unique blend of a casual feel and the sporty origins of this silhouette. In AW23, the Contender S evolves into a new material combination of a mix of suede and synthetic suede, with a white base and contrasting eyelets.
