Product details

The Contender is an archive silhouette that was originally released in 1995 and featured design ideas from Mizuno founder Rhiachi Mizuno. It was a lightweight model known for its stability and support, designed for beginners seeking a well-cushioned shoe suitable for road or trail running.

The upper of the Contender combines mesh with suede reinforcements for a robust construction that also offers maximum comfort. The midsole is made from a one-dimensional, compression-molded EVA foam with Mizuno's Transpower technology in the heel area, providing a responsive foam insert that also ensures shock absorption and additional cushioning. The outsole features a new one-piece full rubber design with flex grooves in the forefoot area, allowing for a smoother transition from heel to toe. The classic '90s look and the balanced interplay of matte mesh and suede create a unique blend of casual style and the athletic roots of this silhouette. In AW23, the Contender S is presented in a new material combination of suede and synthetic suede, with a white base and contrasting eyelets.
