On the front of this St. Benedict medal pendant, Saint Benedict holds a cross in his right hand and his rule for monasteries in his left. To his right is a poisoned chalice, a reference to the legend that hostile monks attempted to poison him. To his left is the raven carrying away a loaf of poisoned bread. These stories are believed to be the origin of the belief that the medal can protect against poison.

On the back of the cross are the letters C S S M L – N D S M D, initials that mean: “May the holy cross be my light – may the dragon never be my overlord.” The encircled C S P B stands for “The Cross of the Holy Father Benedict.” Surrounding it are the letters V R S N S M V - S M Q L I V B, which mean “Begone Satan. Never tempt me with your vanities. What you offer me is evil. Drink the poison yourself!” The whole is rounded off with the word “PAX,” which means “Peace.”

This vintage-style steel pendant necklace for men is made of surgical stainless steel, as is the double curb chain it hangs from. The double chain means that even if one link breaks, the necklace will not fall off. I will be caught by the next link in the chain. The durable lobster clasp and adjustable length give you the option to decide how low the pendant should hang.
