What is Sumikkogurashi?

The name "Rilakkuma" is a combination of "rirakkusu," the Japanese transliteration of the English word relax, and "kuma," the Japanese word for bear. According to Rilakkuma's backstory, he suddenly appeared in the apartment of Kaoru, an employee of Samejima Co., Ltd. Rilakkuma decided to live there and relax, together with Korilakkuma and Kiiroitori.

Rilakkuma first appeared in the picture book Rilakkuma Seikatsu by San-X. In the picture book, Rilakkuma wears various costumes. It is suggested that he might also be wearing a costume in his normal appearance.
