Stevia Rebaudiana is a herb of the chrysanthemum family that grows in the wild as a small perennial in parts of Paraguay and Brazil. The glycosides in its leaves, including up to 100% stevioside, are the reason for its incredible sweetness and make it unique among the nearly 300 species of stevia plants.

There is evidence that stevia (or Ca-he-he) was used as early as pre-Columbian times to sweeten maté, an indigenous drink.
