In 1845, Giusia Uboldi, a botanist, chemist, and pharmacist in Viganello (Ticino), began producing small quantities of oil for medicinal and food use, including flaxseed, castor, nut, and almond oils. In 1887, Luigi Bordoni took over the oil mill from his father-in-law and expanded the business. He focused on producing flaxseed oil for food use, transforming the agricultural laboratory into a production facility. In 1951, the first continuously operating bio-refinery was established with the help of an efficient production concept. In 1988, a new processing step was integrated into oil production: the birth of the cold-pressing method. Sabo is one of the first European industrial companies to engage in organic farming since the early 1980s, as environmental compatibility is just as important for producing high-quality products as the satisfaction of customers, consumers, and suppliers.
