Black cumin originally comes from West Asia, Iraq and Turkey. However, it has also been native to India, Pakistan and North Africa for a very long time and is used in a variety of ways. In Egypt, black caraway was first documented between 1550 and 1070 BC. The seeds of Nigella sativa (true black cumin) and the oil extracted from them have traditionally been used in many different ways as a spice and household remedy. Countless stories and traditions surround this plant with its beautiful flowers. From pharaohs to Nefertiti and Cleopatra, not forgetting the "little" people. For thousands of years, black cumin oil has been highly valued for its spicy, peppery flavour, its many valuable essential fatty acids, but also (and perhaps above all) for its valuable fatty compounds such as essential oils (e.g. thymoquinone), carotenes, tannins and saponins. Our virgin black cumin seed oil is unfiltered and has an aromatic, spicy flavour and aroma. The colour can vary from golden yellow to reddish. It is suitable for flavouring hot and cold dishes. It is also very popular and well-known as a skin, hair and massage oil.
