Long pepper (Piper longum) was already a sought-after commodity in ancient times – known in Europe before black pepper even established itself. This smaller variety comes from Indonesia, specifically the island of Sumatra, where it is harvested in traditional forest cultivation. Due to its smaller size, the fruit spikes are particularly intense in aroma – more compact, spicier, and more concentrated than the classic Lampung pepper from Java.
