Wakame is an annual brown alga that grows mainly during the cold autumn and winter months and can grow up to two meters long. Wakame used to grow only in Asian waters, but in recent years it has been spreading across the globe. Lima wakame is high in protein and fiber and low in unsaturated fats. Wakame tastes deliciously sweet, mineral and slightly like oysters.
