Native to South India
Jackfruit trees are native to South India. The fruits, which can weigh up to 50 kg, grow directly on the trunk and are sweet and fruity when ripe. If harvested unripe, they have little flavour but their texture resembles that of meat. The young fruits are high in fibre and are virtually fat-free by nature.

Recipe Tip:
Season the jackfruit flesh with spices, salt, and pepper. Heat frying oil or coconut oil in a pan and sauté the jackfruit flesh over medium heat, turning it several times.
Important: The pre-cooked and ready-to-use flesh should be seasoned - only then will it develop its flavour. The unopened pack can be stored without refrigeration. Once opened, it should be kept in the fridge and consumed within 5 days.

At Govinda, we harvest our jackfruits from family-run plantations that are EU organic certified. Since local demand is lower than the supply of jackfruits, Govinda utilises young jackfruits from seasonal surplus. This additional income supports local farmers.
