Who is actually the hedgehog Eduard on the packaging of our gluten-free fruit muesli? Eduard the hedgehog is our Bauckhof mascot and, like all hedgehogs, a true foodie. He is named after Grandpa Eduard Bauck, who converted his farm to organic farming as early as 1932. Hedgehog Eduard lives much like his spiky relatives in the hedges of Bauckhof, which also provide a habitat for insects, bees, songbirds, and beetles, and are therefore planted on many organic farms. Here, Eduard and his friends find a healthy selection of earthworms, snails, beetles, and caterpillars. Organic farms do without pesticides. By farming in harmony with nature, biodiversity is preserved – which means, among other things, plenty of delicious meals for little garden friends like hedgehogs and others.
