Fusilli first appeared in their current form in Southern Italy and originally stemmed from the idea of winding spaghetti around a knitting needle. Later, due to the different taste preferences in various Italian regions, Fusilli emerged as a distinct variety. Within Barilla's product range, the Fusilli pasta was reinterpreted and acquired its characteristic spiral shape, which is typical of the tradition in Central and Northern Italy.
