Great food needs fresh spices. Since 2012, you can find exactly these at the spice manufacturer Ankerkraut in the port of Hamburg. The spices of Ankerkraut are produced by hand, if possible without the use of machines. Stefan, the founder of Ankerkraut, has been an enthusiastic cook since he was a little boy. He discovered his love for foreign flavours when he was 10 years old in Africa. It was a homemade curry and the fresh spices, herbs and peppers at the African markets that triggered his enthusiasm, which has remained with him to this day. The spices in Africa were simply in a different league to the domestic mass-produced products, he says today. This has to do with the fact that in Germany, the spices are first processed after import and then stored for a long time. Today, Ankerkraut spices are received directly from traders at the port, peeled, sorted and ground, and the whole process is done without machines as far as possible. Afterwards, the spices and herbs are refined and their very own blends are created. Unlike most large companies, no flavour enhancers, no anti-caking agents and no preservatives are used. Ankerkraut's motto is: no additives, no flavors, no emulsifiers, no flavor enhancers.
