His love for foreign flavors was discovered when he was just 10 years old in Africa. It was a homemade curry and the fresh spices, herbs, and pepper varieties found in African markets that sparked his lasting enthusiasm. "The spices in Africa simply played in a different league than the local mass-produced products," he says today. This is because in Germany, spices are processed after import and then stored for a long time. Today, Ankerkraut spices are received directly from traders at the harbor, peeled, sorted, and ground, all as much as possible without machines. Afterwards, the spices and herbs are refined, and unique blends are created. Unlike most large companies, no flavor enhancers, anti-caking agents, or preservatives are used.
