He discovered his love for foreign flavors at the age of 10 in Africa. It was a homemade curry and the fresh spices, herbs, and pepper varieties at the African markets that sparked his lasting passion. "The spices in Africa simply played in a different league than the local mass-produced products," he says today. This is because in Germany, spices are processed after import and then stored for a long time. Today, Ankerkraut spices are received directly at the harbor by traders, peeled, sorted, and ground, all done as much as possible without machines. Afterwards, the spices and herbs are refined, and unique blends are created. Unlike most large companies, no flavor enhancers, anti-caking agents, or preservatives are used.
