Hello, the lamp has a regular on/off switch. There are also several settings that allow the lamp to stay on for a certain amount of time, from 30-120 minutes. If you don't use these buttons, it simply lights up until you switch it off yourself. So it's very easy to use and we use it in our household to combat winter depression. I think it works.
