Is it also suitable for the lower back (especially the deep square lumbar muscle) and possibly even for the thighs?

Basically yes. Thighs and back can be massaged well with it. The rotating heads have a fixed position and cannot be adjusted in width. That means it fits better or less well depending on your physique. The product is practically identical to the one Aldi recently sold. Lidl also has one on sale right now. Both for 39.90, but without battery operation.
