Phytovir is a herbal remedy containing an extract from rhubarb root and an extract from sage leaves. Both the rhubarb root and the sage leaves have antiviral properties against herpes viruses. Additionally, sage leaves have anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effects. These complementary plants accelerate the healing of herpes labialis (lip herpes or cold sores). Phytovir is applied externally for the treatment of herpes labialis (cold sores).

Application

Phytovir should be applied to the affected area approximately every four hours during waking hours. Treatment should begin as soon as possible after the first symptoms appear, such as tingling, itching, or burning, and should continue until the symptoms subside or for a maximum of 10 days. Hands should be washed before and after applying the cream to prevent possible spread of the infection. The use and safety of Phytovir in children and adolescents have not yet been tested.
