Otovent system for all complaints associated with negative pressure in the middle ear, such as chronic tube middle ear catarrh (seromucotympanum), chronic tube dysfunction, tympanic cavity effusion, and barotitis due to rapid changes in air pressure, such as during air travel, diving, or ascending and descending in mountains.

The middle ear is an air-filled cavity located between the eardrum and the inner ear. A channel of air between the middle ear and the nasopharynx, known as the Eustachian tube, usually ensures that the middle ear is adequately ventilated and that any accumulated fluid can drain away. Common causes of middle ear infections are infections from the nasopharynx that are transmitted through the Eustachian tube. The most frequent cause in children is trivial respiratory infections, enlarged adenoids, or chronic infections of the upper respiratory tract.

Eustachian tube dysfunction is a blockage of the Eustachian tube, usually due to inflammatory diseases in the nasal and throat area, but also occurs with rapid changes in air pressure (e.g., during flights). This is often accompanied by a feeling of pressure and fullness in the ear (like "water in the ear"). Hearing is muffled and difficult.

Otovent can be used when negative middle ear pressure does not resolve, such as in tube dysfunction, middle ear infection with effusion, pressure chamber treatment, or during and after flying and diving.
