The myth of Favonius and Flora, the goddess of flowers, is a fascinating story that celebrates love and transformation. Favonius, the Roman god of the wind, fell in love with Flora and transformed himself into a rose, the goddess's favorite flower, to win her over. Impressed by Favonius's gesture of love, Flora kissed the rose, fulfilling his wish. The term "rose" is said to have originated from a misunderstanding between Flora and Cupid: struck by the arrow of love, Flora attempted to say the word "Eros," but her excitement made it sound like "ros." Since then, the rose has become a symbol of love, youth, and beauty in both Roman and Greek culture. Favonius, whose name means "favorable," was known as the gentle and fruitful wind, the harbinger of spring. It was said that he ruled over plants and flowers, bringing the vitality and fertility of nature with its spring awakening. The Roman poet Horace described the arrival of spring as the return of Favonius and his bright west winds, bringing rebirth and prosperity.
