For hygienic and practical reasons, such as overly long bristles and gag reflex, a toothbrush is not recommended for removing tongue coatings. The miradent tongue cleaner with its finger-shaped handle is particularly effective due to its extremely short bristle field. The rounded frame and bristle field work together to lift and gently remove the coatings. The rounded frame also minimizes the gag reflex.
