These masks do not constitute a medical device under European Directive 93/42/EEC nor personal protective equipment under Regulation (EU) 2016/425. The mouth and nose protection mask should be worn over the mouth and nose, completely covering them. Proper hand washing with soap or a suitable disinfectant is essential before and after removing the mask. The mask should be changed approximately every 2 hours or as soon as it becomes damp, and should be immediately washed at a high temperature or sealed airtight in a bag. Children under 3 years old should not wear a mask due to the risk of choking.
