The body visibly reacts to light, including red light. Red light is one of the wavelengths of sunlight (600 to 700 nm). Near-infrared is light that is invisible to the naked eye (850 nm). The wavelength affects the depth to which the light penetrates the tissue. Gentle exposure to red light particularly influences the mitochondria in cells, which are found in muscle cells and nerve cells, among others.
