Jacques Guerlain named his creation "Mitsouko" after the heroine of the bestselling novel "La Bataille." Mitsouko, a beautiful married Japanese woman, secretly loves a British officer. In 1905, the Russo-Japanese War breaks out, and Mitsouko awaits the outcome of the battle with dignity, controlling her emotions nobly. Jacques Guerlain had the incredible and bold idea to combine a chypre with a very fruity peach note, which gives this fragrance its modernity.

Designed by Raymond Guerlain, the iconic inverted heart bottle is accentuated by elegant curves in the typical Art Nouveau style. Its avant-garde cap in the shape of a hollowed-out heart evokes the delicate romanticism of this masterpiece of perfumery and represented a significant technical advancement at the time.
