In this work, therapeutic medicated toothpastes were planned for the treatment of periodontitis (gum inflammation) and pain, designed to have a prolonged effect. The focus was on the local action of the medication and the enhancement of the mucoadhesive properties of the prepared formulations by adding the necessary amount of mucoadhesive polymers. Diclofenac sodium and nimesulide were selected for their safety, low toxicity, and high efficacy as analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs. The pastes contained mucosal stabilizers or mucoadhesive polymers such as methylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, and sodium carboxymethylcellulose, and were examined for various physicochemical parameters such as pH, spreadability, extrudability, active ingredient content, viscosity, mucoadhesive studies, and IR studies. In vitro studies on drug release were conducted in phosphate buffer at pH 6.4. Significant results were obtained during the physicochemical studies, and the in vitro drug release in the pastes demonstrated a prolonged release and good adhesion to the oral mucosa, resulting in a longer residence time in the mouth.
