8. MiniTrix 16017 N Steam locomotive BR 001 of the DB, MHI

50 years ago: Farewell to the 01 at the Federal Railways. They were a legend and the queens of German tracks: the powerful Pacific express locomotives of the series 01, which shaped high-quality express train services in Germany from 1928 onwards. 50 years ago, these rail stars had to make their final exit from the DB. However, they still had grand performances – in the steam locomotive stronghold of Hof. There, they last pulled express, fast, and passenger trains to Regensburg, via Kulmbach to Lichtenfels, and as a special highlight over the famous Steep Incline, a 25-per-mille ramp at Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg. In 1972, Hof still operated 14 proud 01 locomotives, including the always well-maintained 01 111. Steam locomotive enthusiasts from around the world flocked to Franconia to experience the last grand 01 gala up close. In autumn 1974, the chapter of the 01 at the Federal Railways came to a definitive end. 01 111, which had retained its original boiler and front skirt, was spared from the scrapyard. Today, it stands at the foot of the Steep Incline in the German Steam Locomotive Museum Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg, reminding us of a glorious chapter in German locomotive history.

Prototype: Express steam locomotive 001 111-4 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB). Operational condition around 1972. Version with original boiler, closed front skirt, and Witte-type wind deflectors. Model: Chassis of the locomotive and tender as well as tender superstructure made of metal die-cast. Built-in digital decoder and sound generator with mfx and DCC formats. Drive in the tender, 3 driven axles, traction tires. Firebox flickering via processor-controlled LEDs (red-orange). 3-light front signal, cab lighting, and engine lighting with warm white LEDs. Smoke chamber door for opening. Coupling socket according to NEM at the tender end. Length over buffers 150 mm. Retrofit kits for shunting steps, rail sweepers, and piston rod protection tubes are included.

9. MiniTrix 16254 N DB class 215 diesel locomotive

The DB in the Eighties: The Allgäu-Zollern Railway

The 1970s and 1980s were a vibrant era for the Deutsche Bundesbahn and, of course, also for the Minitrix model
railway. At that time, new colors and unusual designs were intended to bring a fresh breeze to the tracks – not just in long-distance transport. In the south, the "Allgäu-Zollern-Bahn" made railway and transport history, which can now be revived with new Minitrix models on the home layout or in the display case.

Around 1976, the DB wanted to shut down the Württemberg Allgäubahn Aulendorf – Kisslegg, and the Zollernbahn Tübingen – Sigmaringen (– Aulendorf) was also under review. The two regions quickly recognized the value of their railway and devised a concept in cooperation with the DB to make the routes more attractive. Due to a lack of new vehicles, they equipped tried-and-true but already relatively old conversion passenger cars (type yg) with green stripes, a large inscription "Allgäu-Zollern-Bahn," and coats of arms from the municipalities and cities along the two routes. These trains were mostly pulled by diesel locomotives of the series. Although there was no significant increase in comfort, the connection came back into the public consciousness, and the shutdown was averted.

Prototype: Line diesel locomotive 215 064-7 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) in a condition around 1985. Diesel-hydraulic locomotive with steam heating generator. Model: Built-in digital decoder and sound generator for operation with mfx and DCC. Motor with flywheel, 4 axles driven, traction tires. Headlights and tail lights change with the direction of travel, warm white LEDs, cab lighting, digitally switchable. Kinematics for short coupling. Direction-dependent alternating front signal in analog operation. Attached handrails. Length over buffers 102 mm.
